"Sorì del Rovere" Barolo docg

Grape-variety: Nebbiolo

Growing location: Barolo Sorì del Rovere is produced from a selection of grapes grown on a historic Nebbiolo vineyard lying at the heart of San Biagio hill, one of the very finest Barolo crus. This prime site in the village of La Morra faces east south-east, on calcareous and clayey soil of Miocene origin.

Harvest: the bunches are heavily-thinned during the summer, bringing forward the harvest to early October. The grapes are picked by hand, with selection in the vineyard and prior to crushing. In keeping with the estate’s ambitious philosophy, the yield is never higher than 5 tons/Ha, well below the maximum limit of 8 tons/Ha fixed by production regulations.

Vinification: lengthy maceration on the skins in heat-conditioned steel tanks, with delicate breaking up of the cap. This is designed to obtain a selective extraction of the polyphenols, and in particular of the softer tannins, while also guaranteeing good dissolution of the other aromatic fractions.

Maturing:
in 225-litre barriques made of French oak for no less than 24 months. This is followed by 1 year in the bottle, during which the tannins become softer, and the floral and fruity overtones develop to produce theSorì del Rovere cru.

Colour:
deep garnet red, tending to more mature shades on ageing.

Nose:
intense and very complex, hinting at dog roses and berries, along with spices and jam and an expansive floral bouquet. As the wine evolves, liquorice, cooked plum, mushroom and dried figs show through, with a range of sensations stretching as far as tobacco, leather and white truffle.

Taste:
dry, bold and full-bodied, nicely tannic and silky, well-balanced and complex. With patient, attentive care - lasting more than 3 years - the Sorì del Rovere acquires qualities that make it quite unique.
