Langhe Nebbiolo doc
Grape-variety: Nebbiolo
Growing location: the historic Pria vineyard, in the village of La Morra. The soil is clayey and calcareous, with layers of tufa interspersed with veins of sand.
Harvest: thinning of the bunches during the summer usually brings the harvest forward towards the beginning of October. It is carried out by hand, with careful selection of the grapes in the vineyard and prior to crushing. The average yield is 6.5-7 tons/Ha, well below the maximum permitted by the production regulations (9 tons/Ha).
Vinification: in keeping with tradition, with a long maceration and gentle breaking up of the cap in heat-conditioned tanks. This results in an intense, selective extraction of the polyphenols, whilst also guaranteeing good dissolving of the other fractions, particularly the aromatic substances.
Maturing: in 500-litre French oak barrels for 12 months. This is followed by a further year in the bottle, during which the wine acquires polish, with its wealthy array of substances achieving a perfect balance, softening of the tannins, and refining of its fruity, flowery and spicy qualities.
Colour: garnet red, acquiring more mature shades with the passing of time.
Nose: intense, ethereal and complex. Dog roses and berries are noticeable, along with spices and jam, and an expansive floral bouquet. Appealing aromas of liquorice, vanilla, cooked plums and tobacco.
Taste: dry, full-bodied and clear-cut, warm and tannic. Harmoniously rounded, with very strong, lingering sensations on the finish.
