"Janin" Langhe Rosso doc

Grape-variety: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This international variety has adapted well to our soil, producing an excellent wine that has been highly acclaimed throughout the world.

Growing location: the historic Roggeri and San Biagio vineyards in La Morra, composed - depending on the area - of calcareous marl and stratifications of tufa mixed with veins of sand.

Harvest: picking is delayed until the grapes are perfectly ripe, generally taking place in the first ten days of October. It is performed by hand, with an attentive selection in the vineyard, and again in the winery before crushing. Heavy thinning during the summer reduces the yield to 5-6 tons/Ha, well below the maximum allowed by the production regulations (9 tons/Ha).

Vinification: intense maceration on the skins in heat-conditioned tanks, with gentle breaking up of the cap. This results in good extraction of the polyphenols, and in particular of the aromatic substances.

Maturing:
in 225-litre French oak barriques for 18 months, rounded off by 6 months in the bottle. This ageing helps to mellow the tannins, and to bring out the floral and fruity sensations in the wine.

Colour:
deep ruby red.

Nose:
marked by appealing aromas and roundness. The fruit is particularly inviting in the younger wines, as are the more demanding aromas in the more evolved wines, with hints of jam and spices. A characteristic herbaceous overtone is always present.

Taste:
full-bodied, mouth-filling and fresh, with tannins that are just noticeable. On the mouth it shows many of the qualities that came through on the nose.
